Welcome to Fig. 23
FLIP-BOOK ANIMATED PLAYING CARDS
A deck of cards can be so much more than just a deck of cards! Beginning with the "Clockwork" series we introduce our playing cards as not only works of animation but also as unique works of art, a jeweled piece of micro-machinery snug in your hand. Most are printed in the USA by USPCC, the home of the Bicycle Brand.

about
Stephen W. Brandt of fig.23
After working over the past few decades as an Animator, Broadcast Designer, Art Director, Illustrator and Graphic Designer, Stephen W. Brandt has recently found a unique way of combining his many disciplines into one art form: playing cards.
After receiving a BFA at Virginia Commonwealth University and working as an animation cell colorist & finisher in Richmond, Virginia, Stephen W. Brandt relocated to Los Angeles and began his career in broadcast design as a Designer at E! Entertainment Television. He then worked as a Senior Designer and eventually as an Art Director at Turner Entertainment Networks in Atlanta, contributing to the on-air identities of TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, and TCM. As a freelance Art Director in NYC, he worked with such television networks as The Movie Channel, Showtime Networks, and PBS. Shortly after the turn of the century he returned to Richmond and made the transition from broadcast design into television commercial production.
When not creating spots for television, he enjoys making animated shorts which have been shown across the USA at various film festivals. He has earned several awards from the Broadcast Design Association and has been featured in Communication Arts and Print magazines, as well as having served as a juror for national and international design competitions. He is a recipient of the 2013 Arts Fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
